The Ambassadors Competition is the competitive opportunity for all youth (both male and female), ages 15 through 21 who are members of the DIFI Youth Group, to compete and be judged for this honor. The judging is based on the contestants' knowledge of their own country's culture, of other countries' cultures, of the A World A'Fair in general, and of their poise and ability to answer the judges' questions.
Immediately following the Competition is the Ball, the gala event where the winners--the Ambassadors of A World A'Fair--are announced: one male and one female who will each receive a $500 per year, 4-year annual scholarship award. Other awards include the $250 Essay Award, the "Carl Day" Volunteerism Award, and the Peacemakers Winner. The Ball is an opportunity for all workers and friends of the International Festival to come together to celebrate before the festival's opening.
This year's Ambassadors Competition and Ball was held at the American Czechoslovakian Club March 19, 2011. Ambassadors Competition judges were Montgomery County Treasurer Carolyn Rice, Judge Walter H. Rice, and K-12 Gallery Director Jerri Stanard.
Junior Ambassadors of A World A'Fair, a boy and a girl, will be chosen on the Informal stage Friday, May 20, at 7:00.
The Youth Group is the organization provided by the Dayton International Festival, Inc. for any youth of member organizations between the ages of twelve and twenty-one. The purpose of this group is to promote culture through friendship and understanding, to educate the public and one another about each individual nationality, and to engage youth in working, dancing and promoting A World A'Fair.
