Anna R. Ctvrtnicek

Anna was born in the eastern part of the former Czechoslovakia and what now is Slovak Republic. Anna studied Chemistry at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, and after coming to the United States, at the Wright State University. Anna and Tom left Czechoslovakia for Vienna, Austria in 1968. She came to the U.S. with her husband Tom, a chemical engineer, in 1969. Anna and Tom have 2 daughters, Scarlett Jane and Jennifer Annette, and 2 grandchildren, Japhia Mareal and Micah Josiah.
Anna is working at the WPAFB. She is also a qualified judge for the United States Figure Skating (USFS) and spends a lot of her time traveling around the country to judge various competitions. She has done that for the last 21 years. She also enjoys reading, walking, working in the garden, and knitting and crocheting.
Anna has been involved with the Dayton International Festival, Inc. (DIFI) for 29 years. Her involvement began in 1975 when as a member of the American-Czechoslovakian Club of Dayton she taught “The Youth of Our Heritage” dance group Czech & Slovak dances. She did this for 8 years. Anna became involved with DIFI in 1984, serving in many different capacities. She was elected to the DIFI Board of Directors as Secretary in 1986, and served on this Board until 2003. She was the DIFI President for 8 years, Secretary for 6 years and VP for 2 years.
Anna has also served as a Committee Chairperson of the following committees:
Awards, Budget, Culture, Facilities, Floor Plan, International Ball, Kitchen, Move in & Move out, Program Book, Publicity, Special projects, Website, and Worker & Entertainer Passes.
This year the DIFI membership chose to recognize Anna for the many years of contribution to the Dayton International Festival by selecting her to be the Honorary Chairperson of this year's 31st Annual International Festival “A World A'Fair”, to be held on May 21, 22, and 23, 2004 at the Dayton Convention Center.

"It is indeed a great honor to be selected as the Honorary Chairperson for this year's Festival and I am thankful to DIFI members for that honor. The International Festival has been a part of my life for a long time and I enjoyed every moment for reasons which I expressed many times in the past: 'Where else can you find 30 countries under the same roof working in peace and harmony, learning about their history, enjoying their native dancers and entertainment, and savoring their many delicious authentic foods.' "
